The richer we get, the more we like our drinks. Basically, wine is as much a matter of taste as it is of money. Often the cost of the wine makes people think that the wine would be of finer quality, which may not be completely true. Wine in India is still a mystery. Most are unaware of the healthy effects of wine. Wine is a natural slimmer and has very good digestive properties. The French habit of having wine with food is said to be the reason why they have such wonderful bodies. Educating people about wine is going to get us closer to a merrier India.

Wine is made by fermentation of grape juice. It is a long process and no sugar, acid or any form of enzyme is added for it. The juice is fermented by types of yeast, which facilitate its conversion into alcohol. Although wine is also produced from apples and berries, the grape wine continues to be the preferred choice. The practice of making wine has changed very little in over as much as 6000 years, if some historians are to be believed.

There are many kinds of wine. The types depend on predominantly the type of grapes used. Besides the type of grape, the geography, the soil type and the local yeast culture also defines the taster of the wine. All of these ageing are considered the most important as time totally changes the essence of it. Wines are named after the place in most Europe. The most famous among them are the Bordeaux and Chianti. Non European wines are named after the variety of grapes. like the Merlot.

The quality of wine is measured in four essential qualities namely- appearance, fragrance, sensation and finish. All of the four once done are colluded for the final result, which is to decide if there are any possible faults and if the wine is suitable to drink or must age further.

Wine tasting is a full fledged career today. There are five basic steps in tasting wine: colour, swirl, smell, taste, and savour. Tasting of wine is an art. Wine tasting is the sensory examination and evaluation of wine. In India too, it is bound to catch up with the rising demand for quality wine tasters.

Today’s urban elite are much influenced by the nature of use of wine in western cultures. It is only a matter of time, when India grows out of its fold to embrace the sweet intoxication of wine. With consumption expected to triple in next few years, it is an exciting market to venture into. Already few of our vineyards have started extensive research on the possibility of wine consumption outside metropolitan India and its export.

Wine, with a rich history, is a symbol of status and a source of indulgence. It is a subject that has been continuously driving human beings from ageless time to search for quality wine. prepared mainly from red and black grapes. The amount of Tannins also varies from red wine to white wine. Generally, grape skin is the main source of Tannins and red wine contains more tannins than the white.

Though red wine and

are mainly distinguished on the basis of the amount of Tannins in each case and their colours, there are other points of differences too. Red wines are richer, spicy, heavier and herby, while white wines are relatively sweet, light and usually contain fruit flavours.

Talking about the effect of wine on our health, it is believed that heavy drinking increases the risk of heart diseases. However, it has been found that red wine has a positive effect on human heart, when consumed in a controlled manner. The red wine is believed to be more beneficial for health than their white counterparts. Consuming red wine also minimises the risk of cancer. Research has also found that red wine has more antioxidants, though based on the variety of grapes, region, climate, soil and container (oak container), the total amount varies. However, the antioxidants, available in white wine, are more effective.

The quest for has led to the emergence of various wine societies across the world. All these societies organise various wine related events throughout the year. Apart from that, they also take initiatives and conduct researches for quality wine. Membership programs are also offered by all these societies.
